EIP Water

Expertise(s):
The EIP Water Market Place is a resource from the European Innovation Partnership (EIP) aimed at creating a grown community of practice, providing a single point of acces for information, being a matchmaking tool for sharing ideas and needs and providing a virtual meeting point for joint development in water innovation ideas. Users can freely register and edit a profile and join or consult an action group. It offers a water innovation map collecting news, organisations, projects and services. It is a good resource in creating community although not so efficient in finding really usable resources.

Aquaknow

Expertise(s):
AquaKnow is a collaborative workspace and content management system dedicated to technical and scientific knowledge for the sustainable development of the water sector. It is a space for gathering and providing dynamic tools to manage scientific and technical information, including capacity building. It offers a specific space for developing collaborative work, based in Working groups. It is not a product oriented portal, but a contact point about the water management sector.

CUAHSI-HIS

Expertise(s):
The CUAHSI Hydrologic Information System (HIS) is an internet-based system for sharing hydrologic data. It provides web services, tools, standards and procedures that enhance access to more and better data for hydrologic analysis. The goal of the system is to offer access to and unite the USA nation\'s water information. No evaluations or additional supports are offered.

Datahub

Expertise(s):
DataHub is a free data management platform from the Open Knowledge Foundation, based on the CKAN data management system. CKAN is a tool for managing and publishing collections of data. The Datahub provides free access to many of CKAN\'s core features, letting to search for data, create and manage groups of datasets, and get updates from datasets and groups. It is a general purpose portal, not specifically focused on water data or information.

EEA Water Centre

Expertise(s):
The Water Data Centre provides the European entry point for water related data as part of the Water Information System for Europe (WISE). It is a Data centre of the European Environment Agency that offers a catalogue of European datasets, interactive maps and indicators. It houses data and information collected by EU institutions to serve several stakeholders, although it doesn\'t provide tools or services. Contacts with institutions, networks or communities are neither offered.

EIONET

Expertise(s):
The European environment information and observation network (Eionet) aims to provide timely and quality-assured data, information and expertise for assessing the state of the environment in Europe and the pressures acting upon it. Eionet is a partnership network of the European Environment Agency (EEA) and its member and cooperating countries. It provides a forum and access to data and tools, serving as a repository of the data uploaded by its members. It covers several environmental fields.

EU Open Data Portal

The European Union Open Data Portal is the single point of access to data from the institutions and other bodies of the European Union (EU). It aims to help foster the transparency and the accountability of the institutions and other bodies of the EU. Data is free to use and reuse for commercial or non-commercial purposes. To facilitate reuse, the portal provides a metadata catalogue based on common encoding rules and standardized vocabularies. A selection of applications built around EU data is also available. It is a general purpose data repository not specifically focused on water.

European Floods Portal

The JRC Science Hub is the platform for information and exchange about all scientific activities carried out by the JRC and its institutes across Europe. It aims to gradually integrate and aggregate all of the European Commission\'s science related activities, tools, laboratories, facilities, databases and networks, enhancing the transparency and openness of the JRC and further enabling the open access policy of its scientific research data. It is restricted to the JRC research and not focused only to the water topic. It is organised in a directory structure with few search capabilities.

EUROSTAT Open Data Portal

The Eurostat\'s mission is to be the leading provider of high quality statistics on Europe. Eurostat\'s main role is to process and publish comparable statistical information at European level coming from the different Member States statistical authorities, by means of consolidating the data and ensure they are comparable, using harmonized methodology. In its portal statistical data and publications are offered related to several topics in the EU.

European Water Community (EWC)

IWRM-Net Scientific Coordination Project (IWRM-Net SCP) aims to provide the continuity of research projects’ follow up funded by IWRM-Net 1st and 2nd call both on administrative and technical sides. It offers information on the 6 funded projects and includes several webinars made within each one. It has no a broad approach as only covers few projects from the call and does not offer any kind of work community around them.

INSPIRE Geoportal

Expertise(s):
The INSPIRE Directive requires the Commission to establish a community geo-portal and the Member States shall provide access to their infrastructures through the geo-portal. The INSPIRE geoportal provides the means to search for spatial data sets and spatial data services, and subject to access restrictions, to view spatial data sets from the EU Member States within the framework of the INSPIRE Directive. It\'s a general purpose portal offering access to a variety of sources of data, not specifically related to projects\' results in the water topic.

KINDRA Project

The KINDRA (Knowledge Inventory for hydrological research) European Inventory on Groundwater Research (EIGR) is a tool for inventorying information sources regarding Hydrogeological Research Knowledge and Information. It follows the principles defined by the KINDRA project Harmonised Terminology and Methodology for classification and reporting hydrogeology related research in Europe (HRC-SYS). During 2016, National Experts identified by the European Federation of Geologists have been working on populating the EIGR with resources related and relevant to KINDRA. The inventory is expected to be open as from the end of January 2017.

SWITCH-ON

The SWITCH-ON project provides free access to a number of water-information open data products and services. It offers information on 14 tools, including contact details, a factsheet and a video demo for each one. It also provides a map for searching data and a Virtual Water-Science Laboratory to conduct experiments with tools and data. SWITCH-ON promotes dialogues between water managers and other end users, tool developers and scientists through a forum. It is focused on open data and not in standards and doesn\'t tackle the transferability of the products to the market or the end users opinions and validations on the products.

WaterWindow

Expertise(s):
WaterWindow is a catalog of solutions on the water sector. It offers a broad range of tools classified by topic, issue, spatial integration, water type, setting type, project period and degree of innovation. A brief description and the contact details are given for each tool. The portal is self-sustainable, as everybody is free to publish a solution after registering. No more information or support is given.

WISE

The Water Information System for Europe (WISE) is defined as a gateway to information on European water issues. It comprises a wide range of data and information collected by EU institutions to serve several stakeholders: EU water policies, data and themes, modelling, and projects and research. It\'s an important source of information, but doesn\'t offer solutions or support to users in search for applied tools.

WISE-RTD

The WISE-RTD Water Knowledge Portal offers policy, research and industry resources related to water management. The information is structured in categories and linked by keywords. The portal forwards to websites containing a wide range of information with focus on information relevant for the implementation of the European Water Policy.
